Through My Eyes

A photograph is usually looked at, seldom looked into. It need not be explained nor can it be contained in words. It deals in things which are continually vanishing and when they have vanished there is no contrivance on earth which can make them come back. One will never be able to develope and print a memory.

I ran into one of my neighbors at the Marble Falls Auto Show. We both enjoy all kind of automobiles but he is a much bigger fan of NASCAR racing than I am.

Another "Keep Austin Weird" project. The city wants everyone to pick up their dog's poop so Austin will be a cleaner place. The mound of dirt represents a years poop from dogs at Austin' Auditorium Shores Park. The first time I saw this mound it was a lot larger. We've had almost ten inches of rain since then which washed a lot of the pile away but it still represent a lot of poop.

This is one giant pumpkin.

I have not been able to find out the name of the movie that this scene was shot for. The film crew pulled this Taxi all over downtown Austin while the film's actors were in the back seat.

Art at the Butridge Gallery. Narratives exhibit.

Visited Zilker Park to see if the pool had reopened after the flood waters a couple of weeks ago, it had! While at the park I watched workmen string Christmas lights on the parks Moon Tower.

The trail around Lady Bird Lake was a busy place. With a little luck in my schedule tomorrow, I get a chance to walk the trail again tomorrow.

The weather has been fantastic all week. Today I spent time at Butler Park. I sat on one of the parks benches and soaked up the sun just as this group of turtles were doing.

Amy's Ice Cream threw a 25th anniversary party. I chose Mexican Vanilla as my ice cream flavor.

Of all the fancy automobiles I saw at the Galleria auto show, the 4 door 1967 Alfa Romero was my favorite. The T-Bucket Roadster was my least favorite. The roadster looked like it was a combination of several cars that really didn't fit together very well.

Texas defeated Missouri 41-7. Even though the game in Missouri was on national TV, the University of Texas showed the game at the Red McCombs Red Zone inside DKR Memorial Stadium. The popcorn was ready for the kickoff and being able to look down the tunnel onto the field made things seem like a real game.

The day was filled with things I did not expect to see. Two different protest marches. One group protesting the death penalty as they marched down Congress Ave and another group of protesters carrying blue balloons protesting greenhouse gases. A long line at the Austin Film festival waiting for director Ron Howard to come out of the theater. A sweet sixteen celebration on the steps of the Texas State Capital. A large group of young children playing music at UT and a group of UT students practicing a dance performance .

Paolo Veronese painted the Petrobelli Altarpiece for a small Franciscan church in 1565. In 1788 the church was dismantled and the Altarpiece was cut up and sold off to different people. This year is the first time in over 230 years that the painting has been reassemble with all the sections of the Altarpiece in one place. UT's Blanton Museum owns the small portrait you see in the center of the Altarpiece. This will be the only showing in the United States for the next several years.

I used lockers and desk just like these when I went to school and so did our former United States Presidents. In the Schooling of Presidents exhibit there were pictures of JFK in his high school graduation rob, check out his shoes. Bill Clinton as a young high schooler playing his saxophone and the exhibit even had the real sax on display. George Bush feeding his pig and Ronald Reagan practicing for the schools swim team.

The School of Journalism at the University of Texas presented Dan Rather an award. Pulitzer Prize winner Ben Sargent opened the ceremonies.

Remigijus Sabaliauskas played Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Albeniz and Chopin. My favorite was Bach's French Suite no. 2. Mr Sabaliauska played six movements from the French Suite no.2.
